The 20th century saw a revolution in understanding atomic structure, leading to the second Quantum Revolution. Today, we leverage quantum correlations and superposition to engineer novel quantum states, simulate many-body systems, and develop quantum technologies with applications across biology, chemistry, and computing.

This proposed international program, Cold-Atom Based Quantum Simulators and Forthcoming Quantum Technology Applications, will bring together leading scientists and early-career researchers from atomic, molecular, optical (AMO), and condensed matter physics. It will focus on nonequilibrium cold quantum gases—particularly dipolar gases, ultracold molecules, and Rydberg atoms—and explore fundamental and applied aspects of quantum simulation and sensing.

The program includes keynote talks, lectures by eminent scientists, and short presentations by PhD students and postdocs to promote young researcher engagement. Topics include many-body localization, entanglement dynamics, universal behavior in nonequilibrium systems, and the role of long-range interactions and dimensionality in exotic quantum phases.

With India's growing interest in cold atom research, this program aims to foster collaboration, inspire the next generation, and strengthen the national and global quantum research landscape. Emphasis will be placed on theory-experiment synergy, interdisciplinary links, and advancing quantum technologies.

Eligibility Criteria:  The program is primarily intended for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers working in cold atom physics, quantum simulation, AMO physics, and related areas. A limited number of highly motivated senior undergraduate students with strong academic backgrounds may also be considered. Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of quantum mechanics and statistical physics to fully benefit from the lectures and discussions.

Accommodation will be provided for outstation participants at our on campus guest house.

ICTS is committed to building an environment that is inclusive, non-discriminatory and welcoming of diverse individuals. We especially encourage the participation of women and other under-represented groups.
