Abstract

India’s scientific community is central to solving some of the world’s most persistent health challenges. This talk describes the Foundation’s ongoing R&D program in India, focused on maternal and child health and infectious diseases. It covers broader goals, how priorities are identified, how grants are structured and funded, and how investments are balanced across discovery research, translation, and delivery. The talk also examines how the Foundation works alongside Indian institutions, government, industry, and global partners, emphasizing co-creation, open data, and local leadership. Drawing on examples from vaccines, diagnostics, and data-driven approaches, it reflects on lessons learned and opportunities for the research community to collaborate on affordable, scalable solutions.
