In this talk, I will take you though the various motivations and place in context the various questions on which we have been making progress in the last two years. The essential ideas we will encounter cover the way of tuning statistics in one dimensions, the electronic phases a glass can host, the features and subtleties of spin liquid phases when under strain or undergoing a transition to a magnetically ordered state. The talk will end on how a spin liquid can give rise to a fractional quantum Hall like state.  While some of these stories are reasonably complete -- few others will take you to that impatient brink where they are still unfolding.
