String theory remains one of the few frameworks in which quantum gravity can be studied with microscopic control. Recent progress in black-hole physics has clarified important aspects of the information problem, while also sharpening the need for intrinsically stringy methods that can probe the microstructure of spacetime and the resolution of singularities.

This two-week program will bring together researchers working on worldsheet string theory, string field theory, holography, quantum gravity, conformal field theory, amplitudes, and related mathematical structures. The first week will be a school, with pedagogical lectures introducing key techniques and recent developments for PhD students, postdocs, and researchers who would like to build expertise in these topics. The second week will be a conference, with research talks and extended time for discussion and collaboration.

Topics will include tensionless strings, twistor and pure-spinor approaches, Liouville theory and minimal strings, higher-genus string amplitudes, D-instanton physics, string field theory in nontrivial backgrounds, conformal perturbation theory, homotopy algebras, hyperbolic string vertices, and connections between string field theory and holography. The program aims to renew engagement with worldsheet and string field theory methods, train younger researchers in these powerful tools, and stimulate new research directions at the interface of string theory and quantum gravity.

Eligibility Criteria : PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and scientists working in high-energy theory, string theory, quantum gravity, mathematical physics, conformal field theory, amplitudes, or related areas may apply. Familiarity with quantum field theory and basic string theory will be helpful.

Accommodation will be provided for outstation participants at our on campus guest house.

ICTS is committed to building an environment that is inclusive, non-discriminatory and welcoming of diverse individuals. We especially encourage the participation of women and other under-represented groups.
