DATE & TIME
12 October 2026 to 16 October 2026
VENUE
Madhava Lecture Hall, ICTS, Bengaluru

This discussion meeting will be on aspects of classical and quantum mechanics and their applications in optics, condensed matter and pure mathematics. While quantum mechanics replaces classical mechanics on the microscopic scale, the formal similarities between the two are strong; phenomena like focussing and caustics are common to both. This meeting will address the interface between wave mechanics and particle mechanics and the relation between them. We will discuss both integrable and chaotic systems, and the signature of classical chaos in quantum spectra. Another major topic is the phase in wave mechanics and what it has revealed about the geometrical aspects of quantum physics. We intend to bring together the community of researchers in this area for a fruitful scientific exchange. It will also be an occasion to celebrate the career of Michael Berry and his pioneering contributions to this field.

Eligibility Criteria : Senior PhD students, Postdoctoral Fellows and Faculty with research expertise in the area of focus of the meeting.

Accommodation will be provided for outstation participants at our on campus guest house.

ICTS is committed to building an environment that is inclusive, non discriminatory and welcoming of diverse individuals. We especially encourage the participation of women and other under-represented groups.
