How did the Universe become magnetized?
Magnetic fields are observed across the Universe : from cosmic voids and galaxies to clusters and accreting black holes and yet their origin, evolution, and dynamics remain major open questions.
ICTS will offer 1–2 special postdoctoral positions supported by the Simons Collaboration on Cosmic Magnetism, in the area of Astrophysics and Relativity.
The positions will focus on the origin, evolution, and dynamics of magnetic fields in astrophysical and cosmological systems, with possible research directions including:
turbulent dynamos · primordial magnetism · magnetic fields in galaxies and clusters · plasma processes · accretion disks and compact objects · theoretical and computational astrophysics
The selected postdocs will be part of an international Simons Collaboration, with opportunities for interaction across participating institutions.
Location: ICTS–TIFR, Bengaluru, India
Expected start date: January 1, 2027
Duration: Up to 3 years, renewable annually based on academic review
