ICTS graduate student Santhiya PS has been selected for the spring term of the predoctoral program at the Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA) at the Flatiron Institute, Simons Foundation, USA.

Santhiya will be working with Lorenzo Sironi and Alisa Galishnokova on a project studying hot accretion flows around supermassive black holes at the centre of the galaxies. These extreme environments have been imaged in high resolution by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). The polarized EHT images provide a powerful tool for probing the magnetic field structure within these flows. However, current theoretical models and numerical simulations struggle to fully explain the observed polarization signatures. Santhiya’s work at CCA will explore whether extensions of existing theoretical and numerical models can better explain the observed polarization properties and explore their other observational implications.

ICTS congratulates Santhiya and her advisor Pallavi Bhat for this well-deserved recognition.
