ICTS is delighted to announce that the distinguished physicist Peter Zoller has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), one of the highest honours in science. Prof. Zoller is a member of the ICTS International Advisory Board and was among more than 90 outstanding researchers from around the world elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society in 2026.
Prof. Zoller is internationally renowned for his pioneering contributions in quantum optics, quantum information science, and quantum many-body physics. He is best known for his seminal theoretical proposals on the use of trapped ions and ultracold atoms as quantum systems. He is currently a professor and scientific director at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI), University of Innsbruck, Austria. His many honours include the Wolf Prize in Physics and the Max Planck Medal.
On behalf of the ICTS community, Centre Director Rajesh Gopakumar said, “We, at ICTS, are very proud to have Peter Zoller associated with us as a member of our Advisory Board. The election to the Royal Society is a very appropriate recognition of the path-breaking research carried out by Prof. Zoller.”
