ICTS joint faculty member Jim Thomas has been awarded a major research grant from the Naval Research Board (NRB) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for his project titled “Turbulent Dynamics and Energy Cascades of Internal Gravity Waves.”
Prof. Thomas’s research focuses on understanding fluid dynamics of the world’s oceans. Through this project, he aims to investigate turbulent energy transfers of oceanic internal gravity waves across spatio-temporal scales. The research planned for this project will undertake direct numerical integrations of the governing partial differential equations and also develop new reduced mathematical models that can capture the relevant physical processes.
