ICTS is delighted to announce the selection of Bengaluru student Bairav Murugan to the Indian team for the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which will be held in Shanghai, China, from July 10–21, 2026.
Bairav was among six students selected to represent India, following their performance at the International Mathematical Olympiad training camp held at Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), Chennai.
For ICTS, Bairav’s achievement is especially meaningful. A regular participant in the ICTS Maths Circle since its inception, he has since been actively involved in both the online ICTS Maths Circle and the ICTS-RRI Maths Circle.
Bairav’s parents also acknowledged the role played by the ICTS Maths Circle in nurturing his interest in mathematics. “We truly believe that Bairav’s educational journey has been phenomenal, owing to the support and opportunities he received from the professors, mentors, and the ICTS Maths Circle programme, both online and at RRI. We are fortunate to have received these opportunities and hope many more students benefit from joining this programme,” they said.
Congratulating Bairav on his achievement, Centre Director Rajesh Gopakumar said, “Warm congratulations to Bairav for being selected to represent the country at the IMO. At ICTS we are thrilled by the news since Bairav has been a regular at our Maths Circles since its inception in November 2021 (when he was eleven years old!). He has since then been active in both our online Maths Circle as well as the ICTS-RRI Maths Circles. We wish him all success at the IMO and look forward to the flowering of his mathematical talent in years to come.”
The six-member Indian team comprises Aarav Gupta (Delhi), Abel George Mathew (Karnataka), Bairav Murugan (Karnataka), Kanav Talwar (Delhi), Sanjana Philo Chacko (Kerala), and Shreya Mundhada (Maharashtra).
ICTS congratulates Bairav on this remarkable accomplishment and wishes him (and the entire Indian team) success at the IMO 2026.
