The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics has now reached a major milestone in its development after the discovery of Higgs boson by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC, CERN, in 2012. Since the first observation of this new scalar state, detailed investigations of its properties have increasingly confirmed it to be consistent with the SM Higgs boson. While SM is a highly successful theory of the fundamental particles and their interactions at the lowest length scale probed so far in experiments, it has serious shortcomings. New fundamental interactions are required to address them. The main focus of particle physics community at present involves searching for these new theories/interactions and associated new particles. One of the most popular theories that go beyond SM is “Super-Symmetry (SUSY)” theory. However, this theory requires the presence of new set of particles (super-partners of SM particles) in nature, none of which has been found in experiments so far. With an exploratory machine like LHC, it is highly possible that a much larger luminosity and unconventional search strategies are required to establish electroweak scale SUSY which helps resolving some of the issues of SM. This program is going to focus on possible new search methods or feasibility study of finding SUSY particles with High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) in the light of recent results using full Run2 dataset (close to 140/fb data collected during 2016-2018) and beyond.
The tentative topics to be covered:
(1) Current status of SUSY and non-SUSY extensions of SM
(2) SUSY an flavor physics, CP violation
(3) SUSY breaking
(4) SUSY Higgs
(5) SUSY prospects with HL-LHC and challenges ahead
(6) Other BSM physics and experimental search
During the first two days of the program, there will be series of lectures (preparatory school) from experts on current theoretical and experimental status of SUSY search. There will be extensive discussion time/session during/after these lectures. The rest of the program will cover the technical tools or aspects (tutorials) to discuss the improvement of the SUSY search with larger data set from HL-LHC. The preparatory school will help the non-experts to get ready for the main events of the school.
Eligibility criteria: We seek applications from young scholars (postdocs and advanced graduate students). Priority will be given to the scholars who have already demonstrated some aspects of familiarity in LHC physics (especially in SUSY/BSM physics). Faculty participation is by invitation only.
