Abstract

The Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model is a quantum mechanical model of N fermions with disordered interactions. At low energies, the model flows to strong coupling but is still solvable at large N, and turns out to have properties similar to black holes in gravity. This has led to much interest since this could provide a solvable example for the AdS/CFT correspondence. After an introduction to the model, with a view towards expanding the class of such solvable models, I will discuss some of its generalizations to 2 dimensions. I will also discuss models which do not involve disorder.
