POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW -- DATA ASSIMILATION FOR GEOPHYSICAL SYSTEMS

The newly established International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is seeking to appoint one or more post-doctoral fellows for research in computational and interdisciplinary sciences. Eligible candidates should have a Ph.D degree and a strong background in any of the following disciplines along with a willingness to learn about topics outside their area of expertise. The disciplines are: applied mathematics (dynamical systems, PDEs); statistics and probability; physics (fluid dynamics, statistical physics); and atmospheric sciences.
One of the research projects with which selected candidates will be associated is a collaboration among TIFR (ICTS and Centre for Applicable Mathematics), Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) and Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (CAOS) at IISc, all located in Bangalore. The research will be on various aspects of data assimilation (DA) in atmospheric and oceanic models. These investigations will include mathematical methods of inverse problems and probability, nonlinear dynamics of geophysical fluid flows, and modelling of atmospheric and oceanic phenomena. The candidates should have an aptitude for numerical investigations of complex systems and their theoretical understanding. The candidates will have freedom to additionally explore and develop research interest(s) of their own, besides the ones described above.
