Manjul Bhargava, professor at Princeton University, and member of the International Advisory Board of the ICTS-TIFR, has been awarded the 2014 Fields Medal. Bhargava has been recognized for developing powerful new methods in the geometry of numbers and applying them to count rings of small rank and to bound the average rank of elliptic curves.
