Professor Bala R Iyer, Simons visiting professor at ICTS, recently took charge as the chief editor of the journal Living Reviews in Relativity. This high-impact journal is a peer-reviewed, open access, online journal, publishing high-quality reviews of research in all areas of relativity. A unique aspect of these reviews is that they are periodically updated by the authors to include state of the art research, thus making the reviews “living”.

This open-access journal was founded by the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) in 1998, with Professor Bernard F Schutz as the chief editor. It is currently published by the academic publisher Springer. Professor Iyer, who took over as the chief editor recently, was serving as a member of the editorial board ever since the inception of the journal, and as the subject editor on gravitational waves since 2000.

Professor Iyer is one of the world’s foremost experts on theoretical gravitational-wave physics, in particular, on the post-Newtonian approximation methods to General Relativity. He is the chairperson of the IndIGO consortium and the Principal Investigator of the Indian team in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration. His work is widely recognized internationally. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and the International Society of General Relativity and Gravitation.
