What are the fundamental constituents of matter at the shortest distances? What does the universe look like at the largest distances? What is the history of our universe? These are questions that have bothered humans almost since the beginning of civilization. We have now come to the realization that these are not independent issues, but are intimately tied to each other. In this talk I shall describe this fascinating connection and also how much we have understood so far.
