The International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR) located in Bangalore, India, has a vacancy for a project assistant in the field of oceanic data assimilation. The position will be a part of an project funded by Intel Corporation.
The project aims to understand the dynamics of the Indian ocean and improve the predictions of ocean state through assimilation of data into the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) adapted to the Indian ocean. Specifically, the successful candidate will work on developing and implementing the Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) method for assimilation of Argo float data into ROMS. He/she will also devise numerical experiments to expose the strengths and shortcomings of EnKF.
The successful candidate will have a B.Tech. or M.Tech. in engineering (specifically, electrical or other related subject) or B.E./M.E./B.Sc./M.Sc. in related subject, and programming experience. Background in statistical methods and inverse problems, ocean modelling, nonlinear dynamics, or familiarity with Fortran, will be a plus. The annual remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Applicants should send by email a letter of intent and a curriculum vitae including prior relevant experience and the email address of at least one reference to:
