This workshop is intended to facilitate collaborations between Indian scientists working on related areas (analytical relativity and gravitational-wave astronomy, neutrino physics, high-energy astrophysics) and numerical relativists from abroad. The workshop will feature a small number of talks (1 per day) of pedagogical as well as technical nature to bring the participants up to speed with the current research. Over the rest of the time, the participants will disperse as small groups to facilitate technical discussions and collaboration. The hope is that at least a few active research collaborations will emerge from this workshop.

Dates: 24 June - 5 July, 2013
Location: ICTS Building, IISc Campus, Bangalore, India

Organizers: P. Ajith, K. G. Arun, Bala Iyer, Luis Lehner
Scientific Advisers: Christian Ott, Basudeb Dasgupta, Prateek Sharma, Banibrata Mukhopadhyay

Structure of the workshop

The workshop will be organized around three main topics:

  • Interface of numerical relativity with analytical relativity and gravitational-wave astronomy: The main theme of this part of the workshop is the modeling of gravitational-wave signals from compact binary coalescences by combining analytical and numerical relativity.
  • Interface of numerical relativity with neutrino physics: The main theme of this part of the workshop is the inclusion of effects of dense nuclear matter and neutrino microphysics in the numerical simulations of core-collapse supernovae and binary neutron-star mergers.
  • Interface of numerical relativity with high-energy astrophysics: This part of the workshop will deal with the modeling of compact objects and compact-object binaries in astrophysical environments.

Scientific program:

The workshop will be organized in a relaxed environment, and is meant to facilitate scientific collaboration between the participants. There will be one plenary talk on each day. Participants can also organize technical discussions or presentations among smaller groups.
