Over the past few decades, the interface of number theory and physics, especially string theory has led to important physical and mathematical advancements. Techniques in number theory are a vital knowhow in the toolkit of a modern mathematical physicist. In these lectures, we shall go over some of these topics from the basics. These topics could include automorphic forms, L-functions and elliptic curves. We will then see how these different topics play a role in physics. (Some examples include BPS state counts and the attractor mechanism, wall crossing phenomena, moonshine, rational CFT, generalized Hilbert-Polya problems, quantum chaos).
