This program will be organized around the areas of Geometry and Dynamics, which encompasses a large portion of Group Theory (finite or otherwise) in its proximity. The program will have two components:
(i) Advanced School, Dec 3 - 12, 2012
(ii) Discussion Meeting, Dec 13 - 16, 2012
The Advanced School will be aimed mostly at young graduate and post-doctoral students.
The list of topics in the school includes
- Lorentzian Geometry
- Geometry of negatively curved spaces
- Geometry of Discrete Groups
- Arithmetic of Hyperbolic Manifolds
- Lattices in Lie groups
- Geometry and Dynamics of real and complex Kleinian groups
- Flows on Homogeneous spaces
The courses in the advanced school will be delivered by renowned experts in the above areas. The lectures will cover basic background of the theory and will bring the audience up-to-date with research on these topics. There will also be problem and discussion sessions everyday.
The Discussion Meeting will lead to the frontiers of current research and trends in the fields mentioned above. We expect to have specialists in these areas who will be able to advise young researchers in their respective fields. To this end, we will encourage some young participants to present a short communication or a poster on their work in the presence of the eminent experts during the program. The format of the meeting will be rapporteur talks followed by short presentations and discussion sessions.
